In quest'ultimo anno Microsoft si è distinta come una delle aziende leader nella crescita del settore IA, Cloud e tutto il Digital più in generale. È divenuta anche l'azienda numero uno al mondo per market cap, alternandosi poi con Apple e NVIDIA.
La cosa interessante è che Microsoft, più di tutti, ha investito svariati miliardi nell'Intelligenza Artificiale, fino ad arrivare alla notizia più recente di cui parliamo ora.

L'Italia è molto indietro in ambito IA e Cloud, investimenti ridicoli per tutta l'Unione Europea (PIL comparabile a USA e Cina, quota di investimento nell'IA e Cloud decisamente irrisoria), quindi adesso la buona notizia è che Microsoft ha pensato a questa opportunità di investimento, 4,3 miliardi di euro in due anni. Le previsioni sono che il Cloud Region ItalyNorth diventerà fra i più grandi centri a livello europeo. L'investimento di 4,3 miliardi di euro, ad oggi, è il più grande mai realizzato in Italia.
L'obiettivo è potenziare l'infrastruttura Cloud, in particolare i servizi di IA con classico funzionamento cloud computing; l'adozione delle tecnologie IA si prevede possa avere benefici in vari settori, con iniziative sia specifiche, sia più generiche. È prevista anche formazione ad-hoc per un milione di italiani. Essendo nel contesto italiano, diventa importante il concetto di IA etica e sicura (Europa e USA hanno visioni generalmente differenti a riguardo), quindi come aprte del Programma AI L.A.B., i nuovi progetti di IA generativa seguiranno uno sviluppo etico, responsabile e trasparente e anche con attenzione alla sostenibilità ambientale. Microsoft è ben consapevole dell'enorme quantià di energia richiesta dai server oltre al consumo d'acqua (vedi anche: Data Center e IA, problemi di sostenibilità ambientale), quindi ha già predisposto fondi per sostenre lo sviluppo di energia rinnovabile.
In conclusione, questo enorme investimento che arriverà entro due anni è un'ottima notizia, offre all'Italia buone opportunità di crescita, facendola diventare un importante "polo hi-tech" a livello europeo.
